Classification of blogs & opinion about the most appropriate classification approach.

Different bloggers has different interest and different things and topics they want to post on their blogs. However, blogs can be divided into various types and are stated as follows with examples of these kinds of blogs:
a)      Personal blogs: The most common type of blogs where bloggers share their thoughts and feeling to their readers. Eg: http://www.xiaxue.blogspot.com/
b)      Corporate and organizational blogs: These blogs are often used as a marketing tool for many organizations to promote a new product or service. Eg: http://www.articulate.com/rapid-elearning/
c)       Blogs by genre: Blogs with various interest falls into this category. Blogs that fall into this category often include travel blogs, food blogs, fashion blogs and etc.
With so many types of blogs in the internet, it is somehow not that hard to determine which type of blog one blog belongs to.  For me, when identifying a blog, I focus on the style and format of blogs to help determine what type of blog I am currently visiting.  Based on the readings, personal blogs are the same as diary because this is where people put pictures of themselves and their family and also posting up things they want to tell their audiences. Apart from that, corporate blogs could be linked to advocacy blogs as its run by a special interest group to reach out to its audiences and potential customers.

Blogs as current phenomenon & benefits to the community

With new and advanced technology these days, blogging has become so much easier. People can blog everywhere right now with the introduction of new technology such as smart phones and tablets such as iPad.
The pie chart shown above shows the current blogosphere for the year 2010 with almost half the bloggers coming from the United States. Based on the Technorati's State of the Blogosphere 2010 report, the significant growth of mobile blogging is a key trend this year (Sobel, J). Even though smart phones are still new in the current market, the number of bloggers blogging from their smart phone or tablet are expected to rise (Sobel, J)
However, most bloggers around the world these days are blogging to express their views on political issues and also to strive for the freedom of speech. Blog is not only confined to personal issues and matters but it also involves various type of bloggers who blog out of their own interest. In the United States, political blogs are very common among bloggers as this is where opinion and feedback comes into place whereas in Malaysia, food blogs are very common among bloggers.
Apart from that, different type of blogs brings different benefits to the society and audiences. In Malaysia, political blogs are seen as a benefit for the society as people can seek for second opinion about political views as different bloggers perceive each issue differently.
